Little did we know that London would be hosting a massive protest because of the G8 Summit next week... but what the hell... it made for a more interesting experience. We were dropped off by our tour bus right in the center of it by Trafalgar Square.

Let me digress a bit and say that... YES it is amazing to be able to drive from Mons, Belgium to London, England in one day! But it was a long trip. We had to get up at 4:15 am to catch our bus leaving at 5:30. We took two hours to drive to Calais, France, the chunnel with customs, waiting and all took another hour and then the trip from Canterbury into downtown London took another two hours. So if you're not keeping track... that's five hours of travelling each way. Good thing we weren't doing the driving - we all slept.

We arrived in London around 11:30 a.m. starved and went to lunch at the nearest place... here's a picture of it... we had a couple of cokes for the kids and a couple of beers for us. Guess what it cost? $114. We were expecting it, but still?!!!!
Afterwards we spent a wonderful and exhausting afternoon seeing the sights... Trafalgar Square and the protesters, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, 21 Downing Street, The Buckingham Palace, Picadilly Circus, The National Gallery. I must confess we didn't actually go in anywhere - we were just thrilled to be in the presence of such magnificent landmarks. We also didn't have the time and the kids didn't have the patience. Here are the highlights:
