Wishing it was me...

This has happened to me twice now.

Today I was on Fort Stewart driving home from a doctor appointment. I see a cop car - lights flashing coming towards me so I pull to the side of the road and stop with a bunch of other cars in front and behind me. Behind the cop car is a big white Greyhound type bus with SOLDIERS COMING HOME FROM IRAQ on it. People pulled to the side of the road are waving and honking. The soldiers on the bus are waving and smiling. Right behind it is a trail of buses packed to the gills with soldiers (I think five loaded buses in all). They were all going towards Fort Stewart for their Homecoming Ceremony and to finally lay eyes on their loved ones after a long 15 months.

I waved. I honked and smiled. I'm so happy that they're home - I have friends and neighbors whose husbands are coming home now.

And I cried and cried all the way home because I so, so badly wished that my husband was on one of those buses.

Four more months to go.
